Youth Is Served in 'Idol' Group Four There may be precious few wild, drunken parties at the house occupied by this season's "American Idol" Finalists. Following Wednesday night's (March 3) results show, five of the eight Finalists are under the age of 20. For the second time in four groups, the American people endorsed the two youngest contestants.Ryan Seacrest opens the show with his typical Wednesday evening stubble and unkempt bedhead. He may also be wearing the same rumpled shirt from last night. Sure, the ratings for Ryan's syndicated talk show haven't been rousing, but is he living in a dumpster? He also begins his routine with a joke about Simon's salary. Is Ryan asking if the brother can spare a dime? The rehash of last night's show offers a reminder of how split the judges were. Perhaps for the first time this season they'll actually have different opinions when offering their projections (not counting Simon's refusal to predict a second Finalist from Group Two).Things aren't looking good when both Randy and Paula predict that Jasmine Trias and George Huff will advance. Fortunately, Simon mixes things up by agreeing on Jasmine, but making John Stevens his second guess.Oh, and in case you were pondering that eternal question, "Where's Waldo?," gangly John Preator, clad in a red-and-white striped rugby shirt, provides one possible answer. The time has come for Ryan to pull the three contestants with the highest vote totals. "Waldo" Preator is up first, but apparently the voters weren't looking to do an "American Idol" ice musical, because he's done. Lisa Wilson, last seen attempting to deep throat the microphone, won't be performing anymore lewd acts on the "Idol" stage. George's "I'm Young! I'm Young!" act hasn't gotten old with voters and he's the first person into the Top Three.Heather Piccinini attempted to be less like Kimberly Caldwell, but she learns that some voters (and recappers) clearly still cotton to Kim. Despite wild (and somewhat inappropriate) raves from Randy and Paula, the viewers agreed with Simon's dismissal of Tiara Purifoy's over-the-top performance. Jasmine has a flower in her hair and a song in her heart after she's called to join George in the Top Three. That leaves Susie Vulaca and John Stevens sweating it out for that final Top Three berth. The redheaded "Teen Martin" hears his name called. Simon looks smug.Ryan puts the judges on the spot to guess which two will make it through. Showing impressive strength of conviction and fidelity, Randy and Paula both jump ship on George and decide that John and Jasmine are sure things. Simon is very smug. The highest votegetter on the night is John Stevens who received 28 percent of the vote. Simon is unbearably smug. John seems like a nice and humble guy, but would somebody please actually listen to him sing? He's got great raw materials, but he's 16 and he's two or three years of voice lessons from being ready for this stage of the competition, barring a miraculous Aiken-esque transformation. Paula and Randy sway along through his encore of "Always a Woman." Ryan praises John's calm, which verges all too closely on lethargy.Ryan pulls a reverse on the judges and the audience. He teases that he'll reveal the second Finalist after the break, before announcing that Jasmine is through. The smugness begins to ooze from Simon's ears.Having given viewers that extra dose of pre-commercial content, Ryan kicks it to a set of ads before uncovering the Wild Card contestants. He taunts the Group Four singers on the couch with the knowledge that three of them will be back next week. The first nine Wild Carders are Jennifer Hudson, Leah "Vladowski" LaBelle, Elizabeth Letendre, Lisa Leuschner, John Peter "Pen Boy" Lewis, Marque Lynche, Matthew Metzger, Katie Webber and Eric Yoder. Ryan throws it to the judges to pick the three members of Group Four to survive for another week. Randy goes with Susie. Paula picks George. And despite his harsh words last night, Simon goes with Tiara. That means that all 12 Wild Card contestants came from the Round of 32. Surely there was a hidden treasure from the auditions more worthy than, say, Eric Yoder or Matthew Metzger or Katie Webber? We'll never know.
